Horticulture
Errington Special Education Centre offers a vibrant horticulture program that actively engages the majority of students across the school.
Students participate in every stage of plant cultivation—beginning with sowing seeds to germinate vegetables, flowers, and other plants. These seedlings are nurtured in our glasshouse before being transplanted into pots, raised garden beds, or our in-ground gardens.
Our full horticulture shed is equipped with benches and ample storage, allowing students to work comfortably out of the sun or rain.
The vegetables and fruit harvested by the students are used in their weekly cooking projects, providing access to fresh produce directly from their own garden and reinforcing the benefits of healthy, flavoursome eating.
Additionally, some of the plants grown are sold by students as part of the business and commerce studies curriculum. This not only supports practical learning about money and budgeting, but also serves as a rewarding culmination to their year’s efforts.
